I have a few scions of plums sent to me (dormant) and a few 1 year old potted Marianna rootstocks from last year. I've read that the best success rate is from bud grafting, with buds from the current year (not dormant, as I have). My question is what to do with the scions? Try whip and tongue? Or can the dormant scions be used to bud in May instead?
Sorry, new to stone fruits...

Stone fruits seem to like it warmer. Don't graft too early. Last year I had 95% failure in my first batch early in the season, then tried some later on after the rootstock already had 1/4" of leaf and 75% of them took. Mostly all whip and tongue. I've read that they also want heat to callous off rather than cold. good luck.
